pmforum Professional Marketing Forum

Dear Colleague,

The value of corporate social responsibility: a win-win scenario for all?

As a member of the professional services community in Ireland, we hope that your firm will be interested in PM Forum. Please find herewith details of the next event in Dublin. All our events are normally member only, but if your firm has yet to experience a PM Forum event, you may attend as a guest to gain a feel for the association.

The Event

"Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is not how companies spend the money they make; it's how they make the money they spend", according to world-renowned expert on strategic CSR, Prof Kellie McElhaney of Berkeley University California.

The challenge for professional services firms when looking at CSR is how to apply their business competency to make a real difference.

This seminar will give you access to three leading specialists in CSR, who will identify ways companies and individuals can harness their own talents to do good.

Aldagh McDonogh, founder and managing director of award-winning marketing services agency, Alternatives, will offer a strategic vision of the value of CSR and how it is good for business and will give an overview of best practices in this area. The Alternatives Marketing for Change programme, whereby skilled marketers with a desire to give something back can volunteer their marketing skills for the charity sector, is a powerful case study of CSR in action.

One group of volunteers that is often neglected is the decision-making level within community and voluntary bodies. Kieran Loughran, founder and chair of Boardmatch Ireland, will identify the opportunities for professional services practitioners to get involved in strengthening the boards and management committees of such bodies, providing experience in legal matters, corporate governance, financial or business management. He will also emphasise the benefits accruing for individuals and firms, such as broadening their knowledge, building external networks and strategic succession planning, making this a smart investment.

As companies in the financial services sector begin the process of rebuilding their brands after the reputational damage triggered by the mistakes of the past, Lucy Murray, marketing director, McDonald's Ireland, will discuss brand recovery from the McDonald's experience. Starting from the crisis period of the early Noughties, when McDonald's brand relevance was deteriorating and the company found itself at the centre of a number of public debates around obesity and consumer responsibility, Lucy will outline the strategic response McDonald's employed globally to successfully reposition and revitalise its brand, including a new approach to CSR.

This event may also appeal to your fee earners and they are welcome to attend!

We do hope you can join us.
